About TEK Park
Overview and History
Developed in 2005 by MRA Group, {Link to www.mragroup.net} leading Pennsylvania-based real estate advisory and development firm, TEK Park has emerged as the most advanced and comprehensive technology campus in the Mid-Atlantic region. The TEK Park Campus is comprised of approximately 508,000 rentable square feet of quality office, clean-room and laboratory space, clean production area, mission critical operations and data center space, and conferencing center and support space on over 137 acres. TEK Park’s infrastructure is technologically advanced and is regarded as significantly superior.
In 1987, AT&T acquired the property now comprising approximately 137 acres in the western suburbs of Allentown, PA. on behalf of its Bell Laboratory subsidiary, for the development of a research and development center for its optical electronics division. From 1987 through 1990, AT&T reportedly spent $180 million dollars constructing a state-of-the-art, forward looking research and development center of world class distinction. In the early 1990’s, the Bell Laboratory subsidiary was spun off into Lucent Technologies, and in the latter part of the 1990’s, Lucent spun off several divisions, including the optical electronics division, to Agere Systems, Inc. By 2000, Agere reportedly had over 2,000 people employed at the site, involved in everything from electrometrical research and development to microchip manufacturing and assembly.
In 2003, Agere sold its entire optoelectronics division to TriQuint Semiconductor, Inc., including the Breinigsville facility. TriQuint obtained its primary value from the acquisition of intellectual assets. Just prior to the acquisition TriQuint had completed construction of a similar type facility in Richardson, Texas, thus making the Breinigsville facility redundant within its operational structure.
Hamilton TEK Partners, LP acquired the campus from TriQuint in July, 2005. Prior to the closing on the acquisition of the property, TriQuint sold the business operations of its optoelectronics division to Cyoptics, Inc. Cyoptics expanded its existing local operation into TEK Park, investing several million dollars into upgrading and expanding its high end Class 10 to 10,000 clean room operations.
TEK Park’s Central location in the Mid-Atlantic Region is accessible to major U.S. cities, and is ideally located near Interstate 78, route 100, Route 22 and less than 15 minutes to the Lehigh Valley International Airport.
Campus amenities include an on-site helipad, conferencing services for large audiences and corporate events, on-site security, fitness center and hiking trails, on-site daycare and daily cafeteria dining and catering services. Additionally, TEK Park’s tenants may take advantage of being situated in a designated Keystone Innovation Zone (KIZ) {Link to KIZ Section of website, Section IV.D.}, which allow tax breaks and other economic incentives.
